Funding for autism research was set to expire in four months. We developed an online campaign that targeted people with a connection to autism, serving them ads encouraging them to take action via a custom website. Generating more than 50,000 phone calls and letters to Congress, we helped secure $1.2 billion in federal funding.

Challenge: With federal funding for autism set to expire in four months and Congress in a state of gridlock, Autism Speaks, the leading autism advocacy organization turned to A|L Media to motivate Congress to take action.

Solution: We developed an online campaign that targeted a audience of 2.3 million people we identified as having with a connection to autism. We served these individuals ads exerting positive social pressure on them and to become a “champion for the autism community” and visit a custom website we created to connect them to Congress and track the interaction.

Results: The program generated more than 400,000 engagements including nearly 50,000 phone calls and cards sent to Congress with emails collected for each activist. Most importantly, Autism Speaks was able to pass their top legislative priority, securing $1.2 billion in federal funding for autism research.
